SAN DIEGO DANCEWORKS MONTHLY NEWS

Happy Halloween!

Monday, October 2nd

Within the first few weeks of the new semester Ms. Barbara, dance instructors and office staff gathered for a nice lunch to discuss studio policies and future important dates. A lovely digital flyer of these studio policies and important dates can be found here.

New decorations have been added to the studio lobby, there are great headshots of our amazing dance instructors hanging on the wall with a little blip about themselves and their accomplishments. Future lobby renovation plans include new furniture and snazzy new floors!

A new Improv class has been added on Fridays 4:30 PM – 5:00PM for kids ages 8 – 12. Classes explore improvisation as a skill to develop movement invention.  Improvisation games help the dancer explore the elements of dance;  body, energy, space, and time. Improvisations are formed into choreographic studies with dancers performing in solos, duets, and groups.

Two spots have opened up on the petite and star level competition teams. Anyone interested should contact Teran Brown at danceworkscompetition@gmail.com.

Competition dance teams are in full swing! Show your support by donating dancewear to the sale before October 22nd.

TADA! – The Theater and Dance Act, commonly knows as its acronym ‘TADA!’, was signed September 27th by California governor Jerry Brown. This bill institutes a new system that certifies dance instructors with the state. ‘TADA!’ opens up many more opportunities for dancers that want to move forward in the career of teaching. Certification allows theatre and dance instructors to teach in the public school curriculum without needing English or Physical Education credentials, allowing instructors to work much like visual arts and music teachers. ‘TADA!’ has finally passed after 47 years of continuous effort, now California can join the other 48 states, leaving West Virginia the only state left to make dance and theater instructors jump through hoops to teach in the public education system.
